Abby Nurock’s DJ journey began in 2002 with the purchase of her treasured Technics SL/1210 turntables. Renowned for her seamless blends and eclectic mixes, she is a master of her craft and a true quality music selector, drawing musical inspiration from early Chicago/Detroit House, 80s electronica, disco, jazz and classical music. Growing up in a family of musicians, her love for all things analogue was engrained.
Abby is known for her versatility as a DJ who keeps dance floors ablaze with her diverse showcasing of house, disco, electronic, acid and techno.
Over the years, Abby has cultivated a devoted following and gained recognition for her various club and radio residencies in South Africa. She has performed at multiple festivals and label showcases across the globe including Mixmag Lab Sessions, Fabric, Secret Garden Party (UK), Zurich Music Week, Ultra Resistance, Defected, Lighthouse Festival, The Soundgarden, Mambo Classics, Wolfkop, Bazique among others.
She has shared the stage with artists such as Axel Boman, Ralph Lawson, Bonobo, Monolink, Super Flu, Andhim, Black Coffee, Desiree, Shimza, Joris Voorn, Adam Beyer, Kölsch, RY X, Nightmares on Wax.
Abby’s passion for vinyl continues with the development of ‘SAMP’ Records’ (South African Music Press), of which she co-directs. Its label services include small-batch vinyl pressing, licensing and distribution with the aim to elevate South African vinyl culture and international recognition.
Over her career, Abby has crafted a unique brand and reputation under the hashtag #StrictlyVinyl as a die-hard vinyl music selector whose personality is shared through her authentic DJ performances.
